The magnificent peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) was designated the official state raptor of Idaho in 2004

(on the state quarter). Idaho recognizes two bird symbols (the mountain bluebird is state bird). The Peregrine

Falcon was an endangered species due to pesticides, but populations are recovering since ban of DDT in the

1970's and it was removed from the list in 1999.
